Position Size

Stock trading software - stock market calculator

Equity: Enter the equity of your trading account in 1000's.  If you have 50,000 in your account then enter "50" into the data field.  Do not enter your margin buying power!  Enter the cash value of your account.

Stock Price: Enter the price at which you wish to enter the trade.

Stop Loss: Enter the price at which you will exit the trade should it go against you.

Avg Volume: Enter the average trading volume for the stock over the last 20 days.

Avg 5 Day Range: Enter average trading range for the stock over the last five days.  To get this number, add all the highs over the last five trading sessions and subtract all the lows over the last five trading sessions.  Then divide that number by 5.

If you do not know the value of one of the last two fields, please enter “0” in that box. Once you entered all the numbers, you would use the results on the right column to determine position sizing. The LOWEST number on the right column (excluding zero), is the Maximum number of shares you may buy or sell.

Position sizing is extremely important!  Please refer to pages 35-41 in the book How to Take Money from Wall Street for more information about Tony Oz's position sizing philosophy.
